Program Overview:
The International Graduate Program on Civil and Environmental Engineering under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Saitama University offers opportunities to highly qualified international students to pursue graduate studies and research in the field of civil and environmental engineering. Fields of study include, but are not limited to, Infrastructure Management, Transportation Planning, Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, Concrete and Material Engineering, Structural and Wind Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, etc.
The program offers courses that are specially designed for international students. The medium of teaching (class instructions, research supervision) is in English and both the master theses and doctoral dissertations are accepted in English. Though Japanese language is not a requisite for a master’s and/or a doctoral degree, Japanese language courses are also offered for international students and their spouses, to help make their life more enjoyable in Japan. As of current, 69 students from 14 countries are registered to this program.
The program starts either in the beginning of April or at the end of September and require a standard full-time attendance of two years for a Master of Engineering degree and three years for a Doctor of Engineering/Doctor of Philosophy degree. A large number of students are financially supported by scholarships such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of the Japanese Government (MEXT), Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP), and Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJWBGSP). Additionally, scholarships funded by several public and private organizations are also available for international students.
As of March 2020, more than 500 students from over 30 countries have graduated from our program and are engaged in academic and professional activities all over the world.
