University Overview

Since its establishment as an independent institution in 1899, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies has been devoted to foreign languages and international studies, now covering 75 languages, including Uzbek!!  Students from Uzbekistan will have the opportunity to meet and communicate with Japanese students studying their language and regions, making it possible for tandem learning.

Located in the quiet residential area in the western part of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) provides an excellent academic environment for international students. Out of 4300 students altogether, close to 670 are international students from 80 countries worldwide (as of 2020), hence, being ranked as one of the international universities in Japan. There are full of opportunities to make friends with people from all over the world.  Let us also add that TUFS students are very hard-working, studious students, and they genuinely enjoy learning about different cultures and languages.

TUFS provides three degree programs taught in English (or English/Japanese).  School of Japan Studies (undergraduate) is, as one of the students stated, “More than Just the Study of Japan!”  At the Peace and Conflict Studies Course (Master’s), you will learn the multidisciplinary approach to the world.  And the Joint Doctoral Program on Sustainability Research (Doctoral) promotes innovative and practical research on the international community. Pre-arrival Admission is available for all three programs.
